About the Author
Well, I’m a Midwestern girl — born in Nebraska, moved to Kansas at 10 years of age. My parents divorced shortly thereafter. I finished school, got a job in a lighting store, met my husband at the lighting store, and got married. Two years later, we had a beautiful baby girl. Two years after that, we had a beautiful baby boy. Life was good. I was determined not to repeat my parents’ experience. I wanted a happy marriage and happy family. Well, you guessed it, when our kids were 6 and 4, my husband and I separated. I thought life had pretty much come to an end. My brother Doug was in town as this was going on, and he prayed with me. He talked to me about Jesus and what HE did for us. How HE was the sacrifice for our sins and if we believed in HIM, HE would be with us and send the Holy Spirit to live inside us to help us. I did believe, and I prayed. And, ever since, I have felt HIS SPIRIT with me. I started going to church. I joined some Bible studies and over the years, I’ve done a lot of them. But one in particular, Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God study, made a particularly big impact. I was captivated by the scripture from Ephesians 6 and how knowing all that it meant could help me in my life.
While babysitting one night for a friend, taking care of her children, Hazel and Oliver, I got an idea for a children’s book and how the Armor of God could help kids. Oh my goodness, if kids could get a good start in life knowing these things, maybe it could alleviate some of the heartache in their world. So I wrote “The Truth About Hazel’s Cookie,” starring Hazel and Oliver! “The Truth About Hazel’s Cookie,” which is about the Belt of Truth, is the first book in the Armor of God series. I continue working on and hope to finish the series someday, covering one piece of armor in each book.
In the meantime, I’ve gotten the writing bug and am working on other writing projects, too.
Besides writing, I love coffee (I think it’s a law if you’re a writer), playing with my grandkids, spending time with my family and friends (my husband and I reconciled, and now he’s a believer, too!), traveling, reading other authors picture books, and more Bible studies. There is always more to learn.
